Randomized path planning for linkages with closed kinematic chains

951 planning problem, with proven features as long as the tracking is good enough, and one tracking problem. The tracking problem is solved for a class of nonholonomic robots of the unicycle type, and we illustrate the soundness of our method by applying it to rigid body constrained motions. ACKNOWLEDGMENT The authors would like to thank the three anonymous reviewers for their insightful commen...

Synthesis of Spatial RPRP Closed Linkages for a Given Screw System

The dimensional synthesis of spatial chains for a prescribed set of positions can be applied to the design of parallel robots by joining the solutions of each serial chain at the end effector. This design method does not provide with the knowledge about the trajectory between task positions and, in some cases, may yield a system with negativemobility. These problems can be avoided for some over...

The theory of bonds II: Closed 6R linkages with maximal genus

In this paper, we study closed linkages with six rotational joints that allow a one-dimensional set of motions. We prove that the genus of the configuration curve of a such a linkage is at most five, and give a complete classification of the linkages with a configuration curve of genus four or five. The classification contains new families.

Liaison Linkages

The complete classification of hexapods — also known as Stewart Gough platforms — of mobility one is still open. To tackle this problem, we can associate to each hexapod of mobility one an algebraic curve, called the configuration curve. In this paper we establish an upper bound for the degree of this curve, assuming the hexapod is general enough. Moreover, we provide a construction of hexapods...

Understanding Linkages

Mechanical linkages are used to transmit and transform motion. In this paper we investigate what it might mean to "understand" a linkage, i.e. how one would explain the functioning of the system. We present a system capable of understanding a variety of relatively simple linkage mechanisms found in standard references. Our system extracts its understanding by analyzing the results of a numerica...
